Factory Tour and Tea Tasting
Have you heard of withering, rolling, oxidation and drying? Come and discover the processes involved in making the best Ceylon black tea. Did you know that black, green and white teas all start off pretty much the same? It's the magic that happens during the tea production process that transforms them. We pride ourselves with the traditional Orthodox methods of processing tea, the factory has been producing tea this way for generations. The tea factory tour unlocks the mystery of how tea, that delicious beverage we know and love so much, is actually brought from the field to the cup. Did you know from the plantation to the tea pot it takes only 24 hours. Once the tea leaves have been plucked the real production of tea begins. This 24 hours period is crucial as this is when the destiny of the leaves will be determined.
All tours are personally guided and give you a first-hand experience of the factory, the equipment and machinery utilized to produce tea and more importantly the process itself. The tour will last for about 45mins to an hour followed by tea tasting and relaxing at our tea centre. You will have the opportunity to buy factory fresh unblended single origin tea at the tea centre.
Travel Tip
Tours are offered in English, Singhalese and Tamil. Please book your tour well in advance as we cannot offer tours impromptu to visitors arriving without an appointment.
We are open all throughout the week from 9 am to 4 pm. Please contact the office for further tour information, appointments and tour rates.
To ensure the tourists safety, the safety of all employees, and food safety please follow the safety guidelines of the tour guide. As a food manufacturer it is obligatory to follow strict requirements as set forth by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices).
Visitors will need to arrange travel to and from the factory. Public transport is very limited. As we are located 1 hrs drive away from Kandy please plan your trip well ahead.
