Factory Information

Orange Field began its operations under the present management in the year 1950. Mr. Susairaj Reddy the founder passed on the ownership to his sons in the year 1971. From an organisation sans the basic infrastructure such as access roads, electricity and basic manufacturing facilities it has grown from virtual obscurity to one of recognition and acceptance in the western medium elevational category.  Its production capacity has increased from 1500kgs of green leaf per day to 15000 Kgs per day. In doing so it has not sacrificed quality at the expense of quantity. We are indeed proud of the uniqueness of our teas which are 'Boiler Fired and Solar Powered'.

The factory is equipped with all modern machinery required for low country manufacture with a production capacity of 650,000 Kgs per Annum.

  • First tea factory to take the lead role in installing 400 photovoltaic cells (Solar Panels). This will greatly help reduce the carbon foot print while minimising the cost of production.

  • Complete automation of the rolling process. This will reduce worker fatique and ensure the dignity of labour.

  • Semi automation of the grading process. This will facilitate the uniflow of tea during the sorting process, cutting short handling of tea.

  • Inclusion of 2 more grading equipments will guarantee the eveness of grades which is a prerequisite to enhance the net sale average of the factory. This will result in the farmer obtaining a better price for his produce.

  • Installation of hot water generator enabling hassle free firing of teas eliminating smoke taints.

  • The Incorporation of 4 variable frequency drives to withering troughs. This will improve product quality and conserve energy.

  • Availing of the pollution control and abatement fund (PCAF) to silence the generators through attenuation.

  • Reduction of dust by providing dust canopies where necessary.

  • Use of hydraulic wood splitters to ensure fuel efficiency.

  • Use of electornic colour sorters.

All development projects will be reviewed from time to time to suit the industry. Appropriate steps will be taken to minimise cost and maximise production.
